Sergeant John Hinton with K-9 Duke

Morrow County's K-9 program was reinstated in 1999 with Jango, a German Shepherd, and handler Shawn Wade.  Jango was retired in 2001 when Sgt. Wade went to another department.  Following Jango, Sgt. Troy Landon (then Deputy) began training with Brit; another German Shepherd.  When Sgt. Landon was promoted in 2003, Brit was turned over to Sergeant John Hinton.

Sergeant Hinton and Brit worked together for two years.  In January 2005, Brit collapsed on duty and passed away.  Brit was diagnosed with having had a brain tumor.  A ceremony dedicating a memorial to Brit in the front of the Sheriff's Office building was held in March 2005.  With the help of the public, a statue now stands at the front of the building reminding everyone of our fallen
K-9 Units.

Thanks to the gracious offer by DAD/DAC (Dogs Against Drugs/Dogs Against Crime) the Morrow County Sheriff's Office received another K-9 unit.  The new addition to the staff is Duke, an 18 month old German Shepherd.  In April 2005, Sergeant Hinton and Duke began their training together.  They are now a certified team of law enforcement officers.
